1. The initial team: Pedro, a California native, and James, a Virginian, met in Washington D.C. when Pedro went to present his old startup to Congress on Capitol Hill. The two met up and explored Washington. After the trip, Pedro and James met up again, this time as roommates at UC Berkeley.

2. A UC Berkeley Program: Pedro and James are both part of the Management, Entrepreneurship, and Technology Dual-Degree program at UC Berkeley. They are both pursuing a full major in Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences (EECS) as well as a full major in Business Administration. They are both extremely excited about both EECS and Business and are especially good at thinking about both the technical and business side of any situation.

3. The Beginnings: SportVue was founded out of Room 512 in Norton Hall in Unit 3 at UC Berkeley. James and Pedro decided to be roommates as they both wanted to dive deep into the entrepreneurial world and start a company with their roommates. Shortly after James proposed the idea to Pedro, SportVue was born.

4. Disaster Turned Opportunity: The idea behind SportVue comes from Jame’s experience in Hockey. James, who grew up in Virginia, spent years devoted to ice hockey but never achieved his goals of becoming a Division 1 athlete. He would practice shooting and stickhandling for hours a day, but during the games he wasn’t making plays or scoring goals. He realized, at age 16, that his issue was his inability to keep his head up. After the heartbreaking realization that he’d never be a D1 athlete, James channeled his energy towards entrepreneurship, with a goal of ultimately solving the problem that held him back.

5. Advanced Algorithms: The algorithms used by SportVue are proprietary and created by SportVue. Our algorithms can accurately and quickly warn players about unsafe head positions.

6. International Insight: During the early stages of SportVue, UC Berkeley covered expenses for James and Pedro to go to Nuremberg, Germany to take part in Embedded World, the world’s largest Embedded Systems conference. There, they talked to several experts in the fields of sensors, circuit boards, and programming for embedded systems. Armed with more information, they went back to their dorm at UC Berkeley and created the next generation of SportVue.

7. An entrepreneur: Pedro has been excited about entrepreneurship since high school. In high school, Pedro founded 2 startups, one in photography and one in healthcare. He went on to sell one of his firms.

8. Another entrepreneur: James’ entrepreneurial spirit also started in high school. He founded BestMobileCoins LLC and sold the in-game currency of Madden Mobile and NBA Live Mobile on the website that he built, bestmobilecoins.com. He first started selling these coins on Reddit out of a passion to give gamers an inexpensive way to enjoy these mobile games since he was an avid gamer himself.

9. The Core Team: SportVue’s first team members are all friends of Pedro and James. Mason Freeny, a fellow UC Berkeley student in the M.E.T. program from Fresno, CA, is the mastermind behind the design of our products. Hriday Sheth and Daniel Thinfen joined in mid-2020 and are working primarily on the concussion product and search engine optimization. Shantanu Roy, who is focused on market research for SportVue, is Pedro’s friend and was scouted by Pedro directly for his experience in market research. Aditya Hari, a friend of James’ became SportVue’s first marketing team member shortly after Hriday and Daniel joined the team.

10. SportVue’s Future — Data Enabled Performance and Safety:

SportVue has developed its first product and is now actively working on manufacturing, marketing, and industry deals. Now that they have built a device that people find useful, they feel that it is their responsibility to bring it to as many players as possible.
